We talked about documentary and the four different categories it can be separate into.

These categories are: record, reveal and pursue. Persuade or promote. To analysis and interrogate. finally to express.

Some examples of this are Black Fish, The importer, Reggie Yates. 

There are more than one type of documentary.

poetic documentarys show the footage in order to connect with the audience through rythem, tone and spatial juxtaposition.

Documentary meaning a film or television or radio programme that provides a factual report on a particular subject. Four purposes of documentary according to Michael Renvo. . To record, reveal, or preserve . To persuade or promote . To analyse or interrogate . To express Different forms of documentary Poetic documentary is usually personal and artistically expressed. This could be through antidote form expressing moments of significance. Expository These types of documentary usually try to raise awareness of a certain subject and argue why it is wrong or right and the good/bad effects is has on people, animals, environment etc. Participatory Participatory documentary usually involve a lot of interaction from the filmmaker themselves and they are often film POV shots or film them self. Example: super size me Observational Documentary is when the filmmaker(s) themselves are not involved in the doctumentary. They show people/animals/things how they act in there habit and day to day life. Example: The Meerkats Reflexive During a reflexive the audience are often made aware of the purpose of the film and are asked to give their opinion on it. The filmmaker is also present during the film and is often the narrative voice. Other members such as film crew and editors maybe be seen in the documentary. Example Sarah Polley Stories we tell Performance Performance documentary often focus more on the filmmakers own involvement with the subjects they are filming. These documentarys focus less on facts and include more emotions and personal opinion.
